What to Pack for Barbados
The Less Obvious Essentials
When packing for your trip to Barbados, don't forget these often overlooked essentials that can enhance your experience:
  1. Printed copy of your passport: For duty-free shopping in some shops in Holetown without having to carry around your valuable passport.
  2. Address and contact information of your accommodation and host: Keep a written note of your accommodation's address and the contact information of your host for immigration officials or any unexpected situations.
  3. US dollars: Though widely accepted, it's a good idea to carry US dollars, which are accepted everywhere on the island except on the bus.
  4. Mosquito repellent with DEET: Protect yourself from mosquito bites and potential diseases by packing a reliable mosquito repellent.
  5. Sunburn remedies: Pack products like Sudocrem or aloe vera gel to soothe and treat sunburnt skin.
  6. Antihistamines: In case of allergies or allergic reactions, carrying antihistamines can provide relief and peace of mind.
  7. Antibiotic cream: Have a small tube of antibiotic cream on hand for quick treatment of minor cuts or scrapes.
  8. Insulated beverage cup: Stay hydrated with a reusable cup for water and drinks, keeping them cold throughout the day.
  9. Waterproof phone case: Capture underwater moments while swimming with turtles or exploring the beautiful marine life with a waterproof phone case.
  10. Light-colored and breathable clothing: Opt for light-colored clothing made of breathable fabrics to stay cool and comfortable in the tropical climate.
  11. Oversized Turkish towels: These lightweight and quick-drying towels are versatile and perfect for lounging on the beach or taking a dip in the crystal-clear waters of Barbados.
  12. Blister bandaids: For those long walks or hikes, be prepared with blister bandaids to prevent discomfort and protect your feet.
  13. Tea tree oil: This versatile oil can be helpful for common ailments such as insect bites, scratches, and minor skin irritations.
  14. Large mesh beach bag: A spacious mesh beach bag is perfect for carrying towels, sunscreen, and other beach essentials.
  15. Written directions to your accommodation: Ensure a smooth arrival by having written directions to your accommodation, especially if you are not relying on GPS.
  16. Guests from the UK are advised to bring North American power adapters for their stay.
  17. If you plan on using your phone in bed while it's charging, it's recommended to pack a 6 foot extension cord for convenience.
  18. When you go to the beach and want to take basic precautions with your belongings, it's a good idea to bring a secret money compartment. Amazon offers clever options, such as a hairbrush with a hidden compartment for storing money discreetly. This will help keep your valuables secure while you enjoy your time in the ocean.
  19. A travel-sized portion of laundry detergent for swimwear that needs hand washing after a day at the beach. Hand washing your swimwear will help get rid of the sea salt and other impurities. Hang the swimwear to dry overnight so it's ready for your next adventure.
By considering these often forgotten items and clever local tips, you'll be well-prepared and can fully enjoy your time in beautiful Barbados. Safe travels!
Don't Bring These Items
Know the Rules: No Marijuana or CBD
Now, my friend, this one may seem obvious, but you’d be surprised at how often it’s overlooked. We’ve heard tales of Canadian flights being delayed because some travelers unintentionally packed marijuana or CBD oil products without realizing they’re very much illegal on our island. So, before you embark on your journey to Barbados, make sure to double-check that even your travel bags are free from any traces of these substances. It’s always better to be safe than sorry, my friend.
Benzoyl Body Products: Medicated face and body creams or creams containing benzoyl peroxide can bleach and damage our linen and towels. Check your creams and pack few make-up wash cloths from home to use with those products. This simple precaution will protect your security deposit!
Bronzing Creams and 24-hour Make-Up: Same goes for these products which can permanently stain our linen and towels. We want you to feel and look your best while keeping our accommodation in top-notch condition.
Camouflage Clothing: This pattern is strictly reserved for the army in Barbados. If you're spotted wearing anything in this pattern, regardless of colour or fashion statement, you'll be asked by locals or officials to return home to change or face a fine.
